Update - Summer 2004
Boy talk about a busy summer. After we went to visit Drew things were going along pretty well. Then the end of June Perry awoke with a bad stomach ache and throwing up. Of course I had to call an ambulance since he doesn't have good breathing or able to throw up properly. He usually aspirates and then we have the chance of aspiration pneumonia.
After arriving at the ER it is determined he has pancreatitis, stones in his gall bladder and leading to his liver. So he is admitted to treat the pancreas in order to take out the gall bladder. After he was admitted he began throwing up sever. He also began having what we thought were seizures at the time. Of course my first thought was he was having another stroke. So within minutes he is moved to ICU. He had to have a g-tube inserted to keep him from throwing up. His breathing was getting worse by them minute so guess what he did get the aspiration pneumonia. So now we were fighting that along with the swelling pancreas. Nothing could be done surgically because of the pneumonia. They said he would not live through it, but he pancreas continued to swell and his liver function was bad.
We encountered a new problem one evening when he became almost combative. After a long night of him pulling the tube out of his nose three times. The came to the conclusion he was allergic to the phenegren it made him wild. He did do some pretty funny things though. He kept taking the nurse call remote and trying to comb his hair. Which if you know Perry you know he doesn't have much hair and keeps what he does have buzzed. He also got mad at me and was rolling up towels and throwing them at me. It wasn't funny at the time but we can laugh now.
One night very late the nurse came and got me. She had just gotten results back from a urine sample the sent down. It showed all function of his kidneys were starting to fail. His urine was pure blood in the catheter. Also if his breathing did not improve they were going to have to put him on the vent. I just knew I was losing him. Bobby and Michelle Ekers were there and they left to take their kids home. Within thirty minutes people began showing up to pray. We all were on our knees praying. When I was allowed to go back in early the next morning God had given Perry another miracle. His urine was clear and his breathing much better. God has blessed him over and over.
He finally had the surgery and had to remain on the vent for about 12 hours but did much better than they thought. He had to be opened up which was hard on him especially since he is unable to move around himself. Several days later his bowels stopped working and they had to go in and decompress his bowels. The doctor said he was ready to rupture.
So after five long weeks in the hospital he got to come home with Home Health coming twice a week.
At present he is going to speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy three days a week.
GOD IS GOOD ISN'T HE??
