Today's Lighthouse Beam

Lighthouse  Beam November 30,  2011

A Taliban was sitting in a cave when he hears over a dune the voice of one  American solider: "One American solider is better then 10 Taliban fighters" so  the Taliban angry sent over ten of his high-ranking soldiers. After a lot of gun  fire and yelling and screams of agony the Taliban heard the voice again. "One  American solider is better then 100 Taliban fighters" So the Taliban sends over  100 of his highest ranked soldiers sure of victory. After a lot of gun fire and  yelling and screams of agony the Taliban heard the voice again. "One American  solider is better then 1000 Taliban fighters" So the Taliban sent his toughest,  meanest, personal guards over the dune. After hundreds of bullets fired, and  explosions and the screaming and crying, it was over. The Taliban now wondering  what happened goes over the dune where he finds a wounded Taliban solider who  says "don't send anymore men it's really a trap there is really two of  them!"

The greatest mistake is trying to be more agreeable  than you can be. -- Walter Bagehot

I hate the outdoors. To me the outdoors is where the car is.  -- Will Durst

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is  like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes  away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently  into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not  forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does.  --James 1:23-25, New International Version

Some of the followers were talking about the temple. They  said, "This is a beautiful temple, built with the best stones. Look at the many  good gifts that have been offered to God!" But Jesus said, "The time will come  when all that you see here will be destroyed. Every stone {of these buildings}  will be thrown down to the ground. Not one stone will be left on another!" Some  followers asked Jesus, "Teacher, when will these things happen? What will show  us that it is time for these things to happen?" -- Luke 21:5-7  (ERV) It's almost December, and that means that some  of us have experienced the 'joy' of staying up late at night putting together a  special toy or a bike or something else. For those that haven't experienced this  yet, just wait, it's a wonderful feeling when it's all put together and working  like it's supposed to. Yes, it's a great feeling when it's all  complete, everything is there, it's 'all included.' God gives us a complete offer. Peter puts it  nicely in chapter 1 verse 3. Just think, everything we need for life and godliness has been given to us.  Nothing has to be added! Sometimes we look for the fine print of a  too-good-to-be-true offer. But Peter doesn't put anything in fine print. This  offer is made possible "through the knowledge of him who called us." When we  truly know God we are given all that is needed for life and godliness. Eternal  life is a gift to those who know Jesus as Savior. This is not just knowing about  Jesus but knowing Him.

When we know Jesus, we are changed. God changes us so that we are no longer  under the penalty or the power of sin. Freed from sin's power, we can live a  life of godliness. Then the better we know God, the better we will know how He  wants us to live.

Knowing God begins with salvation. Knowing God better ought to be the desire  of our life, one fulfilled by learning His Word. God's offer is a complete one,  found in Him.

Read this chapter of Peter and learn to let Jesus complete your life.

And remember...Pigs don't know pigs stink.
